Well established Manufacturing concern is seeking a Senior Buyer to perform the following duties:
Key Activities
- Responsible for supervising / managing staff
- Responsible for the purchasing various goods including machinery, equipment, raw materials and/or other supplies for internal consumption
- Reviewing purchase orders, assessing with other departments to verify orders, contacting vendors and evaluating bids/quotations offered by suppliers
- Assisting with the development and implementation of various purchasing procedures, inventories, accounts, proposals and similar preparations and processing of special customer orders
- Request inventory counts and /or stock checks where appropriate
- Obtaining and negotiating prices, delivery terms and sources of supply in accordance with specified policies and procedures
- Ensure and maintain daily outputs
- Communicates effectively with other workers to direct personal workflow
- Verify charges indicated on purchase orders and requisitions against cost centre accounts
- Verify bids offered on substitute items against specification and if necessary with ordering departments
- Utilise ERP system i.e. automated purchasing system (LN info) in the processing of appropriate documentation
- Importation of raw materials
- Stainless steel ordering and monitoring
- Evaluate and review bids/quotations submitted by suppliers
- Monitor supplier performance with regards to delivery, quality and quantity
- Assist in the identification and establishment of sources of supply and the inspection of samples.
- Expedite goods by contacting vendors regarding shortages and administering overcharges and breakage, etc.
- Investigate information pertaining to the preparation of proposals and specifications
- Develop and maintain files of reference material such as supply catalogues and brochures
- Use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email and database software in performing work assignments and provide reports.
- Perform any other incidental tasks as needed
Requirements
- A National Diploma in Purchasing Management / Supply Chain Management or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 Years’ experience with relevant purchasing knowledge of raw materials with complex specifications, including stainless steel and imports
- Minimum 5 Years’ experience in supervising or managing staff in a purchasing environment
- LN info system (or any other MRP/ERP System) experience in related to purchasing and BOM’s
- A track record in cost saving initiatives
- Computer literacy – MS Office
