Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Johannesburg
Job Description:
Conduct complex system studies including short circuit, load flow, stability, motor starting, harmonics, relay coordination, and earthing
Design equipment and systems, applying technical knowledge to meet project requirements and develop new components/equipment
Create, understand, and communicate technical specifications for projects
Layout plants in a functional, safe, and cost-effective manner
Ensure timely project delivery within scope and budget, managing resource allocation and developing detailed project plans
Monitor project progress, manage changes to scope, schedule, and costs, and report concerns to management
Manage client relationships, perform risk management, and collaborate with third parties/vendors
Delegate project tasks based on team members' strengths and experience, meet budgetary objectives, and ensure compliance with safety, health, environment, and quality standards
Experience:
5 to 10 years of electrical projects experience
Comprehensive understanding of Control/RTU Systems, Switchgear, Transformers, and Substation/Distribution/Transmission processes
Proficient in Power Systems, protection, instrumentation, and renewable energy systems
Advanced expertise in electrical power systems software such as ETAP/DigSilent
Knowledgeable in electrical transmission/distribution techniques, product design, materials fundamentals, construction/commissioning, cost estimation, procurement, and OHS/Mine Health Safety Act regulations
Extensive knowledge of electrical infrastructure systems, including protection, distribution, commercial construction practices, contracts, and budget/schedule management
Demonstrated expertise in defining project scope and objectives, collaborating with internal stakeholders, and executing projects through EPC/EPCM/Construction partners
Skills:
Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to teamwork, with a strong emphasis on leading by example
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, combined with proficiency in MS Office and power system software modelling
Extensive experience in electrical design principles, codes, standards, and various phases/types of power project development
Qualification:
BSc/BEng/BTech in Electrical Engineering
Professionally Registered
