The Department of Earth Sciences offers Applied Geology and Environmental & Water Sciences degree programmes. The successful candidate will join the Department's Environmental & Water Sciences Section but will serve both sections of the Department, adding expertise in fieldwork, laboratory and sample management. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas: Coordinate and organize undergraduate and postgraduate field trips. Manage the Department's teaching collection. Oversee the maintenance of Departmental equipment. Manage the Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometer and geochemistry laboratories. Provide IT and computer related support to the department. Minimum Requirements BSc Honours in Geology or Earth Sciences. A valid driver's license. Demonstrated ability in managing laboratories and facilities. Demonstrated ability in handling the logistics and organizing of undergraduate and postgraduate field trips. Be willing to undertake 4x4 driver’s training. Required competencies: Excellent technical and maintenance skills. Good verbal and written communication skills in English. Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment. Student-focused approach. Coaching and mentoring skills. Planning and organizing skills. Computer literacy skills. Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline.
