Senior Power Engineer at NRF National Research Foundation - Western Cape, Observatory - National Research Foundation - Observatory

Postion Summary: The Senior Power Engineer will work in collaboration with the Functional Manager (electrical) and program/project managers to ensure smooth operation of the Meerkat and Hartebeeshoek telescopes, successful delivery and acceptance of Meerkat Extension, AVN and infrastructure projects within schedule, budget and quality standards. The scope is also to take technical and operational decisions associated with our sites' electrical power systems to ensure organisational objectives are achieved. Key Responsibilities: Develop requirements, investigations, information and other data for technical designs and trade of studies Direct and manage a project to completion within performance management baselines (scope, schedule, cost, resources and quality) Ensure contractors designs and installations comply with the organisation and statutory requirementsEnsure site power operations complies with the organisation's technical and quality requirementsEnsure the quality of power received from Eskom meets the Electricity Supply Agreement conditions in placeContribute towards the graduate training program and mentor junior employees and site team Minimum Qualification: Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7 Minimum Experience: 5-10 years B Tech Electrical plus 10 years relevant experience B Eng Electrical plus 9 years relevant experience M Eng Electrical plus 7 years relevant experiencePh D Electrical plus 5 years relevant experience Experience: Preferably come from a consulting engineering background;Previous experience on multi-disciplinary projects (Conceptual Stage to Construction Close-out);Held position of responsibility and accountable for designs and project delivery;Experienced with complete project lifecycle from inception to close-outExperience in operations and maintenance of electricity distribution systems Knowledge: Design and operation of power generation and distribution systemsProject management processesSystem engineering best practicesWorking knowledge of built environment contracts especially NECKnowledge of the industry's standards and regulationsExtensive technical knowledge and experience related radio astronomy infrastructure projects Additional Notes: Extensive technical knowledge and experience related radio astronomy infrastructure projectsDisplay problem-solving skillsDisplay excellent interpersonal skillsWork independently as well as in a team environmentHandle multiple tasksWork in remote locations when requiredStrong oral and written communication skillsSelf-motivated and an ability to self-train and upskill independentlyThe NRF website provides more details on the initiatives and activities Applicants should submit a comprehensive CV by registering and apply online through the NRF Recruitment and Selection Portal.
