Introduction The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is a renowned African-led research institute that seeks solutions to Africa’s health challenges. It is located within the University of the Witwatersrand and addresses some of the greatest public health concerns affecting our region, including HIV and its related problems, sexual and reproductive health, and vaccinology. Description Main purpose of the job: To provide psychosocial support to sex workers and transgender individuals, support community outreach services and ART adherence groups Location: Bellville, Cape Town Key performance areas: Conduct in-depth one-on-one counseling sessions and open and closed support groups as and when required following counseling guidelines Provide HIV information to clients/service users that includes but is not limited to ART adherence Provide pre and post-HIV testing counseling Provide counseling regarding patient disclosure Assist with the identification of clients who require social grants as a result of their circumstances Follow up with service users who have defaulted by missing scheduled visits or non-adherence Mentor peer educators on matters related to HIV Run community workshops and support groups aimed at sexual reproductive health, HIV prevention, and related issues Run family/community programs on issues related to HIV and sexual reproductive health Produce and maintain records, data interventions, processes, and outcomes Review, evaluate, and document client progress Record information and statistics on client files Analyse information recorded on clients for statistics Compile monthly narrative reports Assist with research-related activities as and when required Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback Take ownership of driving own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities Required minimum education and training: Social Auxiliary Worker qualification Registration with South African Council of Social Service Professionals (SACSSP) Driver’s license Required minimum work experience: 2-3 years experience as a Social Auxiliary Worker Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities: Sensitivity to the needs of sex workers and transgender individuals Fluency in more than one African Language Basic HIV counseling course Experience in disclosure and adherence counseling as well as group facilitation Experience in identifying traumatic cases for referral Studying for a Social Work qualification Ability to prioritize tasks and work toward deadlines Be a team player Have good time management skills Adaptability to different work environments Listening skills Good communication skills TO APPLY: Only if you do meet the minimum job requirements and experience as mentioned above, may you submit a detailed updated CV.
