Software Engineer - MAMSoftware - South Africa

The Software Development Department thrives on high quality development principles, structures and team collaboration. Striving towards building a better solution to the IQ Retail customer base. The Department also assist in internal support and queries on an escalated process flow basis. This role will primarily be a Development function. Some team lead and administration duties will be required. Escalated support structure for internal queries. Key Responsibilities: Provide support to the system architect in designing and migrating current system to a cloud-based version using new technology stack. Help with maintenance of current applications and the support thereof. Fulfil team lead duties when required. Implement and adhere to policies, procedures, and standards for development. Assist with data analysis, database development and development of new services/solutions both internally and externally. Be responsible for various levels of testing and implementing. Develop effective relevant code using Delphi or other languages as deemed appropriate by the team. Relevant code includes entirely new code, or changes to existing code to adapt a new requirement. Write and/or review project specifications outlined by design requirements, flowcharts, and diagrams. Train staff when implementing new tools or modifying existing tools. Evaluate new software products, develop comparative analysis, and prepare purchase suggestions to management Deal effectively with customer requests, queries, and data analysis. Team player and the ability to work independently and use initiative. Ability to work under pressure. Document all code including documentation to describe program development, including SVN log entries and documentation/manuals for any ad hoc development. Establish project timelines with project manager/management. Adhere to project timelines and effective coding so as meet performance-based analysis. Be prepared to travel locally and internationally. Must be able to always communicate professionally and project a positive corporate image. Effectively managing one's time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently. Keep and manage development source code accordingly. Implement thorough and effective backup techniques as per company development policies. Key Requirements: Essential: Either experience in the Delphi programming language environment, or willingness to learn and code in Delphi. Knowledge of the IQ Retail Application software or similar financial based applications. A good knowledge of database design, structures and SQL scripting knowledge. Desirable: B-Tech degree or diploma with 6 years' relevant experience.
