The Sterilizer Technician inspects, maintains and repairs sterilizers, washers, tables, lights, and related equipment at various facilities. May also maintain various clinical equipment. Maintains daily records of services performed on equipment as per preventive maintenance and repair procedures to provide safe and timely continuous patient care service. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs preventive maintenance, electrical safety and functional testing to departmental and manufacturer protocols and specifications to sterilizers, washers, OR Tables, OR Lights and other equipment supported by the department Repairs defective sterilizers, washers, OR Tables, OR Lights and other equipment to meet or exceed manufacturer specifications. Maintains accurate records for all work performed. Entry and or paperwork should be completed on a timely basis. Understands and maintains a working knowledge of all regulatory requirements related to sterilization and is familiar with industry codes and standards to include the Joint Commission requirements. Read, review and understand items related to the Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements. Minimizes turn-around time on down equipment. Completes repairs at the minimum possible cost to the institution while maintaining the highest level of patient care and quality. Performs all repairs as assigned by the department. . Participates in staff in-service educational programs. Participates in pre-purchase evaluation programs. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Requires standing for up to eight hours a day or walking for up to four per day. Sitting for extended periods of time. Frequent fingering, handling and twisting and turning in using hand tools or other situations. Lifting and carrying items weighting up to 60 pounds. Occasional pulling and pushing objects weighing greater than 300 pounds. Climbing vertical ladders up to 20 feet. Seeing as it relates to normal vision, and hearing as it relates to normal hearing. Sense of smell as it relates to distinguishing burning or other odors when working on equipment. EDUCATION: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent certificate (G.E.D.). An Associate Degree in Biomedical Electronic Engineering, or Electronic Engineering, military equivalent program or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted if approved. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: This position requires three (3) years' experience servicing sterilizers and the successful completion of at least one (1) sterilizer service school. Experience must include all position welding (gas tungsten metal, arc welding and shielded metal arc welding) brazing, soldering and must have in-depth knowledge of steam regulation, medical gas delivery, pressure vessels and piping procedures. Also requires a electrical and electronic knowledge. NOTE: Must have a valid driver's license. This position is mainly based out of our Bethlehem Campus. Occasional travel would be around the Network (10 Campuses) utilizing a company vehicle or personal vehicle in which any travel outside of the regular commute would be reimbursed (at the government mileage rate).
