System Administrator - Johannesburg

Our client is looking for a System Administrator to join their team to maintain and improve their IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Hardware.

  • Regularly inspect and address hardware issues to minimise downtime.

  • Collaborate with departments to understand their hardware requirements.

  • Ensure timely procurement and efficient assembly of computers and servers.

  • Maintain server rack components.

  • Configure and manage mobile devices for testing purposes.

  • Ensure the reliability and functionality of backup power systems.

  • Address onsite network issues promptly to maintain connectivity.

  • Implement and manage firewall rules and switch configurations.

  • Organise and optimise the office space for a productive work environment.

  • Administrative.

  • Maintain an up-to-date record of software licenses and users.

  • Monitor software usage to ensure compliance with licensing agreements.

  • Provide timely and effective support for hardware and software problems.

  • Ensure that new systems are set up according to company standards.

  • Manager service providers eg. Internet service providers and hardware vendors.

  • Planning.

  • Ability to research hardware and software and advise on the best course of action.

  • Plan for future requirements and execute plans with minimal oversight.

  • Document and update records on hardware layouts, configurations, and network setups for reference and troubleshooting.

Key Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven experience as a System Administrator or in a similar IT role.

  • Hands-on experience with computer hardware, server administration, and network configurations.

  • Familiarity with common operating systems, including Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.

  • Solid understanding of networking principles, hardware configurations, and cybersecurity concepts.

  • Experience with firewall setup, switch configurations, and subnetting.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Familiarity with programming and automation software, such as Ansible, is advantageous.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
