The Senior Technical Leader role during the business development phase of complex projects in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, typically composed of several technologies, contracts and specificities with lots of interfaces across various technologies including wind, solar and storage. It encompassed the following: Organising and controlling internal Procurement, Engineering and related support Implementation resources and project elements, assigning responsibilities. Defining project specifications based on bid/customer requirements, project permits and technical limits, monitor compliance in all areas. Corporate environment Follow the guidelines and prescribed structures as outlined by the management procedures. Provide continuous input towards improvement and optimisation of the procedures. Successfully implement the management procedures throughout the bidding submission, closing phase and preparation of execution phases of the Project. Contribute to improvement of management procedures and integrate lessons learned on the Project and at corporate level. Participate to peer reviews for EDF R projects in South Africa and/or worldwide Technical development and optimisation of all project elements: Develop and implement procurement strategy, in consultation with the wider bid team and technical steering committee which ensures an optimum balance of risk, cost, quality, health & safety, economic development, schedule and maximises opportunities for IRR improvement in the implementation phase. Ensure procurement activities are carried out in accordance with EDF-R policies and good industry practices Coordinate all technical resources and actively participate to all actions required to ensure all agreements are concluded in time, optimizing performances and quality and providing all minimum requirements in term of quality, performance, securities and guarantees. Ensure all project technical and contractual interfaces are correctly identified, defined, communicated, understood, monitored, and correctly implemented/reflected in all contracts. Ensure overall project performances are correctly estimated and optimised with the support of the technical team and ensure accuracy and soundness of expected revenues while providing the technical inputs of the financial model. Final validation of all key technical and construction documents and decisions related to the Project before handover to implementation. Manage, coordinate and motivate project human resources, including appropriately staffing and resourcing the project team Monitor and control project budget - exploiting opportunities to reduce expenditure. Monitor and control project schedule. Identification, monitoring and mitigation of the project risks. Initiating and maintaining strong working relationships with all key stakeholders such as construction contractors, Eskom, DMRE, IPP Office, Lender’s Technical Advisors, and corporate department such as insurance, finance, compliance, etc Administer and close all relevant project agreements on behalf of the Project Company which shall include but not be limited to Implementation Agreement Power Purchase Agreement Self-Build Agreement (where used) Distribution/ Transmission Connection Use of System Agreement and Construction Contracts. Ensure the project complies with the Environmental Authorisation, Environmental Management Program Equator Principles, and local H&S and environmental legislation and best practices. Successful handover to the Implementation Team. Health and Safety Responsibilities: Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control, and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e., public, visitors and employees of other organizations. This includes ensuring risk assessments are conducted and mitigation measures are clearly communicated and understood by individuals. Managers must also ensure that individuals have the necessary understanding, competence, and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment. Employees are responsible for ensuring they fully understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. Similarly, where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and particularly where there are legal requirements, employees are responsible for understanding those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied. Requirements Master’s degree in Engineering Preferred Qualifications and certifications: Registered, or in the process of registering, as Project Management Professional with PM Registered as Professional Engineer with ECSA Tertiary qualification in Project Management Apply Now
