The Technical Manager will be responsible for managing the Technical/ Quality Assurance Services (QAS) team, and increasing revenue in the various product streams. This role forms part of the Leadership Academy's Management Committee (MANCO). The role also participates in committees including the QAS Forum. There is a two-fold focus of this role – the design and quality of training offered in CPD and Learnerships, as well as managing and improving the QAS product stream. The role will have full responsibility for training projects and well as technical reviews. The Technical Manager will provide technical and expert services to the Academy and will be involved in the design of training programmes to enhance the skills and competencies according to the defined requirements of the International Professional Practices Framework. This role will bring innovation in the design of the training and delivery of the finished product. The role will initially be focused on assessing the quality of CPD courses and then developing CPD courses to be Academy-owned, as well as developing training videos. This role is foreseen to expand into forming a team of in-house trainers and Quality assurance practitioners over time and in line with revenue. This role will also oversee the quality assurance and consulting services, ensuring that the pricing and costing are market-related, and according to the defined requirements of the International Professional Practices Framework. Strategic Planning •Provide input into the Academy's strategic plan. •Responsible for the drafting of the operational plan and budget for the Technical/ QAS product streams. •Monitor the Training team's performance against the approved strategy via the performance agreements that will include annual approved strategic objectives. Administration Management •Responsible for the drafting of the operational plan and budget for the Technical/ QAS product stream. •Managing the administration-related activities of all the QAS programs in accordance with the budget. •Oversees budgeting and finance-related tasks associated with QAS projects and training QA projects. •Prepares reports for internal staff meetings, MANCO meetings, the QAS forum, and any other related operational, business development, and technical meetings. •Staff management including, but not limited to, allocation of duties, performance management, staff capacity planning, personal development plans, and coaching of direct reports. •Responsible for the administration of high-quality output in line with Company strategy. •Responsible for the tender process to procure the services of •Responsible for the management of the QAS Team Leaders/ practitioners and the related contracts. •Provides support to the Training Manager for the development of e-learning, webinars, broadcasts, and simulation programs supporting the CPD and learnerships programs. •Engage with the Training Manager for the QA of training material for both CPD and LRN. •Assist with other related managerial duties as required. Financial administration and planning •Annually contribute to the preparation of the budget for the Technical team. •Monitor budget expenditure and take corrective action when necessary. •Oversee financial-related tasks including checking and authorizing all purchase orders and invoices for payment, monitor budget expenditure, and take corrective action when necessary. •Liaise with the Finance Controller regarding finance-related processes. •Review the monthly management accounts for the two product streams and check for correct allocations. •Prepare Monthly dashboards in line with the monthly Management information from Finance. Checking and authorising the following oDebtors oReallocations and journal adjustments oProviding notes to the monthly income statements oBreak-even analysis oProfit and loss statements per project oCredit notes oPurchase orders. Marketing •Participate in preparing the marketing plan and ongoing marketing activities for the QAS products with the Sales and Marketing person and CEO. •Work closely with the Sales and Marketing person in ensuring sales and marketing plans are rolled out accordingly. •Liaise with local institutes in Africa and explore opportunities for the Academy to export its QAS products to other countries in collaboration with the Sales and Marketing person to expand the Academy footprint, •Work closely with the Sales and Marketing person in exploring and developing new training products that are innovative and meet the needs of the market. •In collaboration with the CEO, work with other institutes in the IIA network on joint ventures such as e-learning. Stakeholder Engagement •Engage members and customers and all stakeholders with a professional approach. •To be service orientated in dealings with customers. •To have sufficient knowledge about and ensure a good relationship with the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA) to correctly refer customers to the relevant department/employee to assist them with their IIA SA related queries. •Build and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships for the purpose of knowledge sharing and integration and management of the Academy's reputation. •Participate in relevant committees. •Provide advocacy and guidance to relevant stakeholders. •Educate all stakeholders on the development of new training practices. •Analyze queries and develop mechanisms to proactively resolve common concerns and share lessons learned. •To work closely with the Business Development Manager in the development and implementation of new forms of product revenue streams. •Consultation with clients to direct and effectively add value-adding educational and quality service purchases. Staff management •Staff capacity planning. •Allocation of staff to duties. •Give strategic direction to the staff. •Chair monthly internal product stream meetings. •Creating an environment that encourages creativity, innovation and forward thinking. •Oversee performance management of all staff within the team. •Ensure the regular updating (at least every two years) of job descriptions and performance agreements and ensure performance standards are met. •Mentorship, guidance and training of direct reports all staff. •Disciplinary action when necessary •Submission of own leave and approval of staff's leave on a timely basis, taking into account work requirements and any Board-related leave decisions. •Conduct performance appraisals in terms of the performance management framework and provide objective feedback to ensure staff continue to learn and grow. •Play a highly collaborative role building solid cross-functional relationships across the Leadership Academy. Reporting •Submit monthly operational performance dashboards and staff reports to the CEO for MANCO meetings on a timely basis. •Prepare reports on the QAS Forum to the Board on a quarterly basis. •Participate in and prepare reports for other committees as and when necessary. Training Programmes •To develop and improve training programs to ensure internal audit competence and practical takeaways from the training. •Responsible for high quality programme policy and strategy. •Conducts and reviews the current training content by evaluating current training courses and training methods by training service providers. •Provides technical advice to improve current training programs and new/or improved training programs according to requirements. •Determines overall effectiveness of training programs evaluating feedback and making improvements as necessary. •Determine course content and objectives. •Evaluate technical trainers and identify areas needing improvement. •Prepares and develops training materials and sessions, in groups or individually. •Recruits and onboards new technical trainers. •Maintain technical knowledge by attending committee meetings and reviewing publications. •Research and keep abreast of current and new requirements for technical standards and evaluate standards under review. •Advances on quality assurance internal audit activities with the mandatory guidance portion of the International Professional Practices Framework. •Grow and develop in house QAS internal QAS Team Leaders/ Practitioners. •Act as a mentor for new QAS Team Leaders/ Practitioners and conduct peer reviews for continuous improvement. QAS Products •Develop, oversee, and deliver excellent QA products and services. •Develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring QAS projects such as preparation of records of expenditure and research findings, and progress reports, to inform management of the current status of each project. •Manage and analyse the information received from various organisations to a trend analysis report for the department. •Review QAS reports before being issued to clients. Formal Education •Matric •Bachelor's degree (business/ internal audit/ education related) •Postgraduate degree (business/ internal audit/ education related) •Advantage: Master's degree or equivalent Postgraduate (business/ internal audit/ education related) •Level 8 qualification Advantage oAdult education qualification. oProject management qualification. oInternal Audit-related qualification. oCIA, PIA, IAT. PEQA Course Computer Literacy •MS Office Suite; MS Excel – advanced capability. •Knowledge of training and eLearning platforms. •Knowledge of databases. Experience •At least 7 years experience in management administration/ training/ internal audit. •At least 5 years of management experience, including CAE experience and training and development experience. •Training and development experience. •Skills in e-learning training. •Strong teaching and mentoring experience. •Great communication and interpersonal skills. •Must have sound business acumen. •Experience in the adult training environment will be a distinct advantage, especially nationally and/ or internationally. •Must have experience in dealing with people in senior positions. •Must have experience developing administrative processes and procedures. •Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in-classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations etc). •Knowledge of the internal audit profession and the global internal audit standards is a requirement.
