Job Description AECOM is looking to appoint a Technologist - Civil Infrastructure in the Durban Office. This position will be 95% site supervisory role (office-based but travelling to site) for a period of approximately 12 - 18 months, thereafter transitioning into an office-based design/modelling role. Technical Excellence: Conducts assignments in the civil engineering field Plans, organizes and manages complex projects Makes recommendations on alternate solutions to engineering problems Prepares and presents technical plans and reports Institutes changes in methods, designs or equipment Under Supervision, performs work following the agreed-upon budget and schedule. When required, collects and analyses information from specific discipline and interdisciplinary project BIM models. Uses computer software as a tool for solving fundamental engineering problems. Coordinates with other discipline Engineers as applicable for the continuity of the design process. Participates in design progress and coordination meetings. Actively seeks information, opportunities to participate and contribute, and develops efficiencies and effectiveness. Contributes by solving problems and applying experience or theoretical knowledge to atypical assignments. Assists with the design content by applying both design and technical knowledge to ensure high-quality outputs under project timelines. Client Relationship Management: Begins to participate in client meetings to discuss project requirements, explain/defend work, etc. Skills Suitable experience in site supervisory roles on previous projects (civil works, with structures/electrical works as advantageous) Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Civil 3D design software. Advantageous to have proficiency in design software such as 12D Model, OpenRoads and/or Micro station. Ability to undertake concept and detail design of civil infrastructural elements such as earthworks platforms, stormwater, sewer, water and roads) for multi-disciplinary projects. Calculate and compile schedule of quantities; Keen understanding of standard specifications such as SANS and COTO. Assist with standard setting and be responsible for quality assurance of products i.e. drawings and reports; Compilation of tender documentation including quantities and cost estimates; and Report writing and presentation skills.
