In keeping with its mandate as a comprehensive, Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Institution offering a variety of academic and career-focused programmes, Unisa is inviting applications for the position of Executive Dean: College of Law. Roles and responsibilities An Executive Dean is an executive officer of the College , S/he is a member of the Extended Management Committee of the University, and is required to advance the strategic goals, academic objectives and the management philosophy of the University. The incumbent reports to the Vice-Principal Academic: Teaching and Learning and provides strategic leadership to the College of Law to establish Unisa as a centre of excellence in the fields of Law,including tuition, learning, research, and community engagement in South Africa and on the African continent, in line with the overall vision and strategy of Unisa. . S/he does so by leading academic strategy in the College critically reviewing and optimising current approaches to Law teaching and learning envisioning and establishing relevant educational programmes in response, in the first instance, to nationally determined needs in line with Unisa’s strategic objectives and secondarily, to the needs of the continent building and securing sound contextual relations with relevant stakeholders, including the community establishing and maintaining a collaborative approach with regard to tuition within the College promoting cutting-edge research in the field of Law assuming responsibility for transformation and change management in the College Requirements A relevant Doctoral degree At least fifteen years experience in Higher Education of which at least five years should be at senior management level A proven academic record and a recognised scholar in the field of law, with a good grasp of evolving trends Demonstrated experience in, and expert knowledge of, teaching and learning Sound track record as an academic leader with proven experience and involvement in leadership and management at the level of college, faculty and/or school Knowledge and insight into the challenges facing higher education in South Africa.
