The Utility Services Technician has the responsibility of supervising the general flow of sterile instruments and equipment from SPD to the surgical suites. He/she is responsible for the ordering of case carts from SPD via the computer. The Utility Services Technician places orders for products that are not ordered by Storeroom and maintains these par levels. The Utility Services Technician will notify and coordinate with the Biomedical department. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares schedules, pick lists, preference cards, and orders cases from SPD. Participates in review of OR schedule daily and helps to identify potential conflict or instrument/supply concerns. Coordinates daily flow sheet of instrumentation for completion of case carts. Requisitions individual case carts via computer pick lists and preference cards for scheduled, urgent add on, and emergency cases. Picks 'extra' or OR stocked instruments/supplies for case carts. Coordinates requests for instrumentation and equipment with other departments and other campuses within the Network. Coordinates and receives inflow and outflow outside vendor equipment and products. Coordinates with sales representatives and material management outside equipment and supply needs for upcoming cases. Maintains and updates all material in CSA, including but not limited to scheduling, flow sheets, and log books. Enters implant and product information into implant tracking system. Submits outside orders of products not maintained by storeroom or SPD personnel utilizing the online electronic ordering form. Restocks supplies and instruments processed by SPD and takes supplies, equipment, etc. to the operating rooms, as needed. Communicates information to the OR staff, care coordinators and materials management personnel regarding supply changes, substitutions, etc. Communicates in a professional and respectful manner to staff and other departments. Resource for OR clinical staff in locating or identifying OR instruments/supplies. Demonstrates flexibility in accepting direction and alteration of assignments in response to changes designated by the Manager or designee and/or changes in unit situations. Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or other continuing education programs. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Must have the ability to sit for 2 hours per day, and up to 1 total consecutive hours. Must be able to stand for 10 total hours per day and up to 8 total consecutive hours. Must be able to walk 6 total hours per day and up to 10 total consecutive minutes. Must have the ability to frequently use fingers/hands for fingering and handling. Must have the ability to use upper extremities for frequent pushing of objects up to 10 pounds and occasional pushing of objects up to 75 pounds. Must have the ability to transport patients weighing up to 250 pounds via wheelchair, stretcher and/or bed. Must have the ability for frequent stooping and bending. Must have the ability for frequent reaching above the shoulder level. Must have the ability for touching as it relates to feeling objects by touching with the skin, particularly that of fingertips. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision. EDUCATION: High school graduate/GED. Understanding and knowledge of OR environment/cases encouraged. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Computer literate. Two years experience in the operating room required.
