Water Plant Operator - NIGHT SHIFT - Humansdorp

The primary purpose of the Night Shift Water Plant Operator/Process Controller role is to ensure the continuous and safe operation of water treatment plants during the night shift. This includes monitoring and controlling various processes to maintain water quality standards in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Operate and monitor water treatment plants during the night shift to ensure continuous and safe operation.
  • Conduct regular checks and tests on water treatment equipment and processes, including pH levels, chlorine levels, and other parameters, to ensure water quality meets regulatory standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on water treatment equipment, including cleaning, calibrating, and repairing as necessary.
  • Monitor and adjust process controls and parameters to optimise plant performance and efficiency.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and alerts indicating equipment malfunctions or deviations from set parameters.
  • Document plant operations, test results, maintenance activities, and any incidents or abnormalities encountered during the shift.
  • Communicate effectively with the day shift team to provide updates on plant performance, maintenance requirements, and any issues encountered during the night shift.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as maintenance and management, as needed to address plant-related issues or requirements.

Experience:

Tertiary qualification

Valid driver's license.

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in process control, preferably in a water treatment environment.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Class 1 operator certificate from a recognised municipality (optional).

Strong communication skills, able to read and write English and one other South African language.

Ability to test water every few hours and knowledge of test equipment, pH levels, parameters, and what to look for.

Critical skills in working with chemicals and possessing a gas chlorine handling certificate (preferred).

Sound knowledge of general water treatment practices.

Basic fault-finding abilities.
