Inspect vehicles to diagnose faults Follow checklists and record findings, to ensure all-important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, tyres, lights and other potentially troublesome areas. Confer with service advisor and /or customers to obtain description/s of vehicle problems. Examine vehicles, compile estimates of repair costs, and secure applicable approval to perform repairs. Order necessary parts for repairs in collaboration with Service Advisor. Discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements with service advisor. Plan work procedures, using charts, technical manuals, and experience. Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups. Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear. Overhaul or replace carburettors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps. Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes. Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers' performance specifications. Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems to ensure that the repair/components are functioning within manufacturers' specifications. Remove and replace defective mufflers and tailpipes. Repair and rebuild clutch systems. Repair and replace automobile leaf springs. Repair and replace defective ball joint suspensions, brake shoes, and wheel bearings. Repair, overhaul, and adjust automobile brake systems. Tune automobile engines to ensure proper and efficient functioning. Job experience At least 3 years working experience as a motor mechanic (petrol and/or diesel) Education Motor Mechanical qualification Other Own transport to and from the workplace premises Shift work may be required.
