In the real world that relationship exists\u00a0<em>on average\u00a0<\/em>(see the dot charts below) but with significant deviations from the trend. Many developed countries, being relatively less populous than their developing counterparts, have high levels of GDP, while the GDPs of\u00a0less-developed countries, especially in Africa, are\u00a0disproportionally low.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>According to the UN DESA baseline scenario, by the year 2100 Africa will\u00a0become the world&#8217;s most populous region, accounting for 39\u00a0percent\u00a0of the\u00a0global population and replacing\u00a0Asia as the key driver of global population growth.<\/li>\n<li>More than half of global population growth between 2015 and 2050 is expected to occur in Africa, and after 2050 Africa is projected to be the only major world region with a\u00a0continually growing population.<\/li>\n<li>Nigeria is expected to remain the most populous\u00a0African country, reaching 752 billion in 2100, according to projections by the UN.\u00a0The Democratic Republic of the Congo &#8211; one of the world&#8217;s poorest countries &#8211; is expected to become the second most populous African country.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"922\" height=\"353\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-171404\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joblife.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Screen-Shot-2017-09-02-at-3.39.46-PM.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.joblife.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Screen-Shot-2017-09-02-at-3.39.46-PM.png 922w, https:\/\/www.joblife.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Screen-Shot-2017-09-02-at-3.39.46-PM-300x115.png 300w, https:\/\/www.joblife.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Screen-Shot-2017-09-02-at-3.39.46-PM-768x294.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 922px) 100vw, 922px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a\u00a0perfect world, where access to technology and the wealth are equally distributed, the GDP of each country would be proportional to its\u00a0population.
