Administrative Assistant - South Africa

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To provide general administrative and secretarial support to academic staff in the Department of Accounting Sciences.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Provide word processing services (e.g. typing of correspondence, editing formatting of lecture material, power point presentations, assignments/ solutions, test and exam papers and solutions).
  • Provide effective general office and other general administrative support to the Department of Accounting Sciences.
  • Provide effective academic administration functions for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered in the Department.
  • Managing and accurately capturing marks on Moodle, an Excel database and on the ITS system.
  • Provide financial administration functions.
  • Manage travel and accommodation arrangements (local and international).
  • Manage internal and external public relations and liaison.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Understanding of the processes and practices in an academic environment.
  • Sound knowledge of ITS or equivalent software package.
  • Appropriate knowledge and experience in general office and academic administration.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding organisational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to copy type quickly and accurately, including the typing of figures (e.g. financial statements).
  • Advanced computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Moodle.
  • Proven ability to use own initiative, work independently and under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Adhere to the values of Nelson Mandela University.

REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must possess Matric (Grade 12) plus at least three years relevant work-related experience in which competency has been gained, preferably in a tertiary educational environment.
