Kiepersol Area – Mpumalanga: Our client is looking for an Assistant or Junior Farmer to join the team. Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered. This is a “LIVE-IN” position. Basic accommodation is available. No children. If married, your wife need to be able to work in the guest lodge. Own vehicle is a requirement. To start immediately – within 2 days of appointment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Suitable tertiary qualifications in line with the industry would be an advantage. Experience on a macadamia and avocado farm. Code 10 or Code 14 driver’s licence will be beneficial, but is not a requirement. Ability to English, Speak Xhosa/Zulu is advantageous. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Develop and implement plans for planting, cultivating, pruning, maintenance and harvesting avocado, macadamia nut and other crops. Monitor crop conditions and make decisions regarding irrigation, fertilization, and pest control. Assist the farmer with regards to costing plan for the season for fertilization and pest control. Oversee accurate irrigation schedules and maintain the irrigation network. Ensure that labour costs are minimized by effective utilization of personnel and minimization of overtime pay. Monitor financial performance of the various crops and implement cost-saving measures where appropriate. Allocate tasks and responsibilities to ensure efficient and productive farm operations. Ensure compliance with Global GAP and Siza policies and complete and manage the audit process. But is not a requirement. Develop and expand the market for produce. Oversee the maintenance of buildings, fences, roads and other infrastructure and general farm safety and security.
