NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHESFTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES CENTER FOR WATER SCIENCES AND MANAGEMENT POSITION NUMBER: P000656 VACANCY: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER PEROMNES: A6/A7 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Appointing an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer to make significant contributions towards postgraduate teaching, research supervision of students and research within the subject group Hydrology and Geohydrology (Centre for Water Sciences & Management). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching & Learning · Teaching of postgraduate modules · Conduct tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, and student field excursions. · Actively involved in the development of new courses · Develop, register, coordinate, and present short learning programmes (SLPs). Research & Innovation · Initiate research projects and supervise PhD, MSc, and BSc (Hons) students. · Conduct own research, publish, and engage in third stream income generating projects. · Drive and grow international collaboration. · Maintain academic scholarship and be involved in professional organisations. Social responsiveness and industrial involvement · Take a leading role and participate in ongoing community engagement activities/projects. · Development of projects to benefit the community with relation to water sciences. Academic leadership, management, and administration · Assist and take proactive actions to develop members of the Centre. · Serve on related research/ethics/integrity/management committees. FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS) · Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance. · A proven publication record in accredited scholarly journals. · Evidence of supervising post graduate students (M and PhD level). · Record of national and international networking, collaboration, and recognition. · Develop, register, coordinate, and present Short Learning Programmes (SLPs). · Applied groundwater and hydrological modelling. · Competency in data analysis and data mining. KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: · Effective communication skills. · Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation. · The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group. · Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven. · The ability to solve problems independently. · Good Time-management and problem-solving skills. · Good planning and organising skills as well as good report writing skills. · A high level of professional and ethical conduct. · A PhD (NQF level 10) in Geohydrology/Hydrology with specialisation in applied hydrological modelling. · Professional registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP). In addition to the above SENIOR LECTURER · A minimum of three (3) years' relevant work experience in the subject group. · Evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR · A minimum of five (5) years' relevant work experience in the subject group. · Evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative. ADDED ADVANTAGES SENIOR LECTURER: · A minimum of three (3) years' sound practical experience to lead students in work integrated learning. · A minimum of three (3) years' teaching experience at a tertiary level. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: · A minimum of five (5) years' sound practical experience to lead students in work integrated learning. · A minimum of five (5) years' teaching experience at tertiary level. REMUNERATION The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
