NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY OF ECONOMIC AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES SCHOOL OF ECONOMIC SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: M000079 VACANCY: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER PEROMNES: A6/A7 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION A Senior lecturer/ Associate professor is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and Learning: The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions. Initiation and development of subject material. Development and Supervision: The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars. Supervision of the program of study of honours students or of postgraduate students engaged in course work. Teaching activities include initiation and development of unit materials and may include the supervision of honours and research students. Research and Innovation: Supervision of major honours or postgraduate research projects. The conduct of research. Involvement in professional activity. Development of Course materials: Development of course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees. Marking and assessment. Consultation with students. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR PhD degree (NQF level 10) in Economics. Professional membership A minimum of six (6) years' lecturing experience plus a minimum of five (5) research publications in an accredited journal. At least two completed Masters and one completed or in process PhD. SENIOR LECTURER A PhD degree (NQF level 10) in Economics. Professional membership A minimum of five (5) years' teaching experience plus a minimum of two (2) research publications in an accredited journal. At least one completed Masters supervision. ADDED ADVANTAGE Conference proceedings. FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge and Skills): Knowledge of Mathematics Economics and Econometrics. Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), email, and internet Knowledge of Statistical Software (Eviews and Stata). Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance. Research outputs. A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in student's educational development and wellbeing. Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment. KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: Effective time-management skills. Effective communication skills. Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation. Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU. The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group. The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group. Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven. The ability to solve problems independently. Good Time-management and problem-solving skills. Good planning and organising skills as well as good report writing skills. A high level of professional and ethical conduct. REMUNERATION The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
