An Associate Professor/Senior lecturer/Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching, learning and research efforts of the institution, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional career relevant to the profession or discipline in terms of research and community engagement. JOB DESCRIPTIONKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Teaching and Learning:Teaching undergraduate Geography and Environmental Education modules on contact and distance mode, etc.Teaching and supervision: PostgraduateStudy guide and study material developmentResearchLeading and participating in research national and international projects.Initiating and planning of strategic research initiativeResearch Publications - articles, chapters and/or booksMembership and participation in research entity activitiesNRF funded project management.Community EngagementCommunity serviceInitiate and manage community engagement projects. A PhD in Geography and Environmental Education (NQF 10) (Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer).An MEd in Geography and Environmental Education (NQF 9) (Lecturer).A bachelor’s degree with Geography as a major subject up to university level 3 (NQF 7).A minimum of 3 years’ teaching and learning experience in school Geography (Grade 10 to 12) or university Geography.A minimum of 3 years’ research experience in Geography Education or Environmental Education.Added Advantage:Professional registration with SACE.Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)Advanced knowledge of Geography (Human and Physical Geography, Map Work, and GIS) and Environmental Education to teach Geography and Environmental Education content modules to undergraduate B.Ed. and Hons students.Knowledge of dynamic teaching-learning technologies, Good computer skills in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.Use of blended learning environments, e.g. Internet and email.Advanced research skills.Key Behavioural Competencies:Good communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to function in a multi-lingual working environment.
