Barista - Randburg

A Barista is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of coffee drinks, beverages, and snacks, providing exceptional customer service, and maintaining a clean and inviting environment. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about coffee, have a keen attention to detail, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities: Coffee and Beverage Preparation:

  • Prepare and serve coffee drinks and other beverages according to recipes and customer preferences.
  • Operate coffee brewing equipment, espresso machines, and grinders.
  • Steam and froth milk for beverages such as lattes and cappuccinos.
  • Ensure the proper calibration and maintenance of coffee equipment.

Customer Service:

  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Take customer orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide product recommendations and answer customer inquiries about the menu.
  • Handle customer complaints or issues in a polite and effective manner.

Food Handling:

  • Prepare and serve light snacks, pastries, and other food items.
  • Follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures.

Cleanliness and Maintenance:

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including the counter, equipment, and seating areas.
  • Regularly clean and sanitize equipment and utensils.
  • Restock supplies as needed, including coffee beans, milk, syrups, and condiments.

Cash Handling:

  • Process customer payments accurately using a POS (Point of Sale) system.
  • Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions, ensuring correct change is given.
  • Balance the cash register at the beginning and end of each shift.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work cooperatively with other staff members to ensure efficient service.
  • Communicate effectively with the team and management.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications: Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a coffee shop, café, or similar environment is preferred but not required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for coffee.
  • Basic math skills for handling cash and making change.
