Bookkeeper - Johannesburg

Position Overview:

As a Bookkeeper, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial processes. The successful candidate will bring a wealth of experience in handling various financial tasks, including VAT compliance, payroll processing, and managing both debtors and creditors.

Responsibilities:

Financial Recordkeeping

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software.
  • Record and categorize day-to-day financial transactions.
  • VAT Compliance:
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Stay updated on changes in VAT laws and ensure compliance.

Payroll Processing:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processes, including calculations, deductions, and tax withholdings.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of salaries and related statutory contributions

Debtors and Creditors Management:

  • Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve outstanding balances.

Bank Reconciliation:

  • Reconcile bank statements regularly and address discrepancies promptly.
  • Monitor cash flow and report on any irregularities or concerns.
  • Financial Reporting:
  • Generate regular financial reports, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
  • Provide insightful analysis to aid management decision-making.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure financial goals alignment.

Tax Compliance:

  • Work closely with external accountants to prepare financial data for tax filings.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and assist in audits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper, with a focus on VAT, payroll, debtors, and creditors.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and MS Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
