Scope & General Purpose
Sources new suppliers, subcontractors, market intelligence
General purpose is to ensure the profitability of the organisation, by purchasing the most cost-effective and appropriate materials for each project, taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply.
Duties:
- Engage with existing suppliers & subcontractors and maintain sound relationships.
- Identify and source new suppliers and sub Contractors.
- Arrange meetings with new suppliers and subcontractors to ensure market, competitive pricing and product knowledge.
- Investigate, source new/alternative suppliers.
- Price negotiations
- Setting up meetings with suppliers and subcontractors regularly.
- Maintain supplier and subcontractor database.
- Liaise with sites and Project Management Team.
- Ensure orders for materials are placed
- Ensure orders are received within the required timeframes.
- In conjunction with Storeman is to regularly follow ups with suppliers on outstanding orders.
- Identify tender and commercial requirements.
- Attends Pre-tender meeting.
- Review the tender document.
- Prepare and compile the tender purchasing requirements.
- Review electronic bills including drawings, specifications and other enquiry documents.
- Obtain 3 or more quotes for materials and subcontractors.
- Compile buying/purchasing files
- Prepares buying file for estimator for handover.
- Relinquishes the purchasing file which includes: best possible price, qualifications, quotations.
- Source prices/ cost of hiring of plant and all materials Placing orders for materials
- Ensure compliance to company guidelines.
- Maintain well organised filing systems
- Update database
- Keeping detailed records and maintaining a well-organized work schedule.
- General Administration
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS : - Matric Certificate
- Matric/equivalent NQF Level 4 qualifications
- Min 3 - 5 years experience in the electrical field either working directly in the sales / buying department or having a good working knowledge of the process.
- Buildsmart/Envisage or equivalent computer software package
- Ideal Buying electrical and lighting projects experience. Exposure to electrical and lighting materials.

- Proven purchasing experience, preferably within an electrical distribution, supplier or manufacturing environment
