Our Pinetown based Chemical manufacturing Client is looking for a Research and Development Lead to join their team. Plans, directs, and manages laboratory functions and staff to support QA and technical requirements. Coordinates research and development, product chemistry, manufacturing processes, and product analysis. Oversees scaled-up plant manufacturing processes in compliance with HSE, ISO, and government regulations. Conducts technical training at the plant level as needed. Reviews operational reports to ensure quality standards and efficiency are met. Interprets laboratory results and prepares reports and technical papers. Prepares and updates safety documents for company products, including technical, SDS, and TREM documents. Collaborates with suppliers on technical matters and stays updated on industry trends. Manages system inputs and change management processes. Builds and maintains product formulation and supplier/ingredient databases. Creates procedures and work instructions for QA and R&D tasks. Assists with product formulation costings. Assumes safety responsibilities for equipment operations, materials handling, and staff safety. Ensures compliance with workplace safety standards and the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Documents and investigates safety incidents or near misses within the work environment. Degree or diploma in Industrial Chemistry (Degree preferred). Experience in the chemical detergent industry. Experience managing a team. Working knowledge of detergent chemistry and product formulation /development. Understanding of surfactant and antimicrobial products and emulsions. Understanding of production processes for Industrial and specialty products. Working knowledge of QA and ISO systems as related to the chemical industry. Knowledge or experience of running plant trials in a factory environment Ability to liaise with external company clients and suppliers at senior level. Ability to organise work program effectively. Syspro experience will be advantageous. Valid driver's license and reliable transport.
