Distribution date: 05 April 2023 Closing Date: 09 April 2023 PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To plan & manage Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene at business level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Grade 12/NQF Level 4/STD 10 is essential. Chamber of Mines Certificate in Mine Environmental Control (NQF 6) is essential. A minimum 4 years working experience in a Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene Department is essential. Computer literacy (MS Office packages) is essential. Other relevant certificate of competency in Occupational Hygiene or relevant field will be advantageous. A valid Code EB drivers licence. Valid Medical Certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain one is essential. COMPETENCIES: Good verbal communication skills are essential. Good technical reporting writing skills is essential. Computer literacy (MS Office package, SAP, etc.) is essential. Plan & design skills of ventilation systems is essential. Asset management system implementation skills is essential. Project management skills is desirable. Sound knowledge and experience in the planning, design and optimisation of underground ventilation systems is essential. Sound knowledge and experience in underground flammable gas management is essential. Sound knowledge and experience in underground fire prevention, detection and suppression management is essential. Sound knowledge and experience in managing occupational hygiene programmes and systems is essential. Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and Regulations is essential. Knowledge and experience in operational risk assessment is essential. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: The successful candidate will be expected to: Ensure the effective planning, design and optimisation of ventilation and occupational hygiene systems to ensure a healthy and safe working environment and to sustain the business. Ensure the effective management to prevent underground fire and flammable gas incidents. Provide input into an effective emergency preparedness and response programme. Periodic revision of the ventilation and occupational hygiene risk assessments and standards. Ensure alignment with the industry best practice in terms of technical standards and strategies. Ensure proper asset and cost management mechanisms are implemented and maintained. Ensure a sustainable workforce by attracting, developing, and retaining critical skills and adhering to best practice people management principles. Ensure legal compliance.
