CHOC is a non-profit organisation made up of caring, committed and passionate people who stand up for and support the well-being of children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer or life threatening blood disorders and their families. Job Title: House Supervisor Location: Parson’s Hill, Port Elizabeth Main Purpose: To supervise the support given to patients and their parents/caregivers at the CHOC House, mange the houses and their facilities and liaise with Psychosocial Support Staff RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Supervision of Staff Ensure that all contracts are signed by relevant staff where needed. To develop monthly timetable for weekend shifts of staff at PE House. To oversee leave of staff and ensure appropriate plans have been put in place. To submit accurate overtime sheets on time to the Branch Coordinator. Ensure that line staff if any are performing their tasks and responsibilities and report any issues to the Branch Coordinator. 2. CHOC House To supervise patient admissions to the houses in conjunction with the relevant hospital and CHOC staff. To supervise the effective day-to-day running of the house. To support and assist the children and parents where required. To ensure that appropriate meals for the children and parents/caregivers are prepared by assisting house support assistant to prepare menu plans. Oversee maintenance issues at the PE House and to ensure that problems are being recorded and fixed timeously. This includes the garden and vehicles. To assist with transport duties when required. To assist patients and their parents/caregivers with their return-home requirements as well as any arrangements that need to be made for various procedures of the child. To be available for emergencies on a 24-hour basis when on duty. Hold bi-weekly meetings with the parents staying at the house. Meet regularly with CHOC Staff to iron out any accommodation issues. To ensure that food inventories are kept up to date, and to import all new food donations into the inventory. Oversee the food store room. Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety aspects at the PE House. Ensure that donation store room is kept neat; Accept all donations. List of donations must be given to Branch Coordinator; To assist the house assistant when required and during shortage of staff by personally carrying out house- keeping duties, this includes preparation of meals. To assist in organizing programs for parents and their children who are staying at the PE house. Arranging outings for parents and children. Arrange skill workshops to be done with the parents Arrange house volunteers to do activities with the children 3. Events and Function Assist in organising any event as requested Buying refreshments or food for events Setting up of the boardroom 4. Finances and Administration To supervise cash flow and financial record keeping regarding the PE House. To supervise recording of donations in kind that is received. To compile statistical records of bed occupancy, patient data cost savings safety and vehicle reports and submit to the Branch Co-ordinator. To coordinate volunteer and/or donor visits to the PE House To coordinate all meetings in terms of logistics and catering at the CHOC Houses. Maintenance of the asset register for the PE House. To assist with CHOC programmes as requested by the Regional Manager. REQUIREMENTS FOR POST Qualification : Minimum of Grade 12 and any relevant higher certificate or diploma OR qualification as a Social Auxiliary Worker or as a Child and Youth Care Worker will be an advantage Experience : Minimum of 2years Experience in caring for people compromised by illness, previous experience as a House Supervisor/Mother would be an advantage Additional Training : Computer literacy (MS Office) and good administrative skills as well as CPR and/or first aid. Skills and Attributes : Maturity, stress tolerance, compassion, empathy, patience, discretion yet assertive, be comfortable in working with people compromised by illness and affected by illness. Recommendation : Experience of working with children and their families compromised by life threatening illnesses or other life traumas, as well as experience in a supervisory role. Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and Xhosa and a good understanding of other African languages. Othe r: A valid unendorsed South African driver’s license. Be highly motivated with a willingness to take initiative and responsibility; a willingness to live on the property as and to work every other weekend and at times after hours as required. Salary in the range of R84, 000 to R95, 000 per annum , CHOC makes contributions towards a pension fund as well as offers a medical aid subsidy .
