Our client, based in Cape Town, provides a range of service and products, including technical products, to a variety of companies and customers in Southern Africa and into the rest of Africa. They would like to appoint a dynamic Commercial Manager who would not only be responsible for maintaining the company's current commercial interest, but develop and grow this business in a sustainable and profitable manner for the company. New business development is a crucial element of this role in the company. Only dynamic candidates with high energy levels and in good health, who would be able to endure the fatigue and strain the regular travelling into African countries might bring about, should apply. The ideal person should have commercial experience in the selling products of a technical nature, which will cover a spectrum from bolts and nuts, to paints and chemicals up to medium and heavy industrial machinery as well as other general procuement items. The successful person will be based at the company's Head Office in Cape Town. 1. Commercial Management & Development Manage existing client relationships to ensure continued and sound business dealings Research target markets and companies and prepare client specific proposals for the technical segment Manage new business opportunities to develop the growth of the tech category Conduct local and international commercial trips to maintain and develop our market shares Source new suppliers and products (both locally and internationally) to maintain and improve our competitive level of offers Establish relationships with suppliers and negotiate favorable terms for the BU 2. Commercial Operations Management Develop and ensure that policies, procedures and checklists are followed by the Gen Proc. Team Manage the timely and accurate preparation of commercial and technical proposition to clients, including the clarification of client specifications, choice of suppliers, product quality, profit margins, etc. Ensure the timely and accurate expediting of orders to ensure orders' fulfillment and client satisfaction Resolve errors and manage claims As this is a hands-on managerial role, also responsible for the preparation of proposals and expediting of orders in conjunction with the logistics department. 3. Team Performance Management Effectively manage a small team of buyers Manage workload, activities, productivity levels, turnaround time, efficiency, accuracy, and quality of work Develop staff competence and skills Assist to staff performance appraisals on a timely basis Any other Minimum Qualification and Experience: Business Management Degree or similar relevant qualification. Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience within a commercial management capacity.Project Management experience will be a distinct advantage Relevant exposure to the Maritime, Shipping or Oil & Gas industry will be a distinct advantage Proven experience in growing business target markets across industries. Minimum Skills and Abilities: Strong Financial Acumen with ability to identify Risks and engage strategically Strong and proven record of negotiation skills and ability to build strong business relationships Strong analytical skills to understand complex data and draw meaningful insights Excellent communication and leadership skills Fully computer literate Fluent in English (French or Portuguese will be an advantage) Willing and able to travel extensively in and outside of South Afica Actrative salary package with benefits and incentives.
