ELIGIBILITY Suitably Qualified Candidates CLOSING DATE 11.04.2024 REFERENCE NUMBER SPE 1724 External SALARY Basic: R373 295 p.a DEPARTMENT Environmental Management DIRECTORATE SPATIAL PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENT Conservation Officer Requirements Higher Certificate (NQF 5) or Diploma/Degree in Nature Conservation; A minimum of two year’s relevant working experience in nature conservation and/or marine/coastal law enforcement; Knowledge of environmental legislation including MLRA, NEMA, NEM: BA, NEM: PA, NEM: ICMA & NWA, Nature Reserve Regulations as well as the City’s by-laws; Experience working in law enforcement is required; Good interpersonal skills are advantageous; Computer proficiency (MS Office Applications); A valid code EB and PRDP Driver’s License is essential; A skipper’s licence would be advantageous; Willingness and availability to work outside normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime; Current Police Clearance Certificate; Appointment as an EMI (under NEMA legislation) is an added advantage; and Peace Officer’s Course is required and candidate will be expected to achieve this within first 12 months of appointment Key Performance Areas Implement the Department’s Environmental Law Enforcement Strategy in order to achieve the Conservation Enforcement and Compliance Strategic objectives; To implement visitor and people management in order to provide safe and secure conservation areas; Operate as part of a team to ensure best practices and successes in environmental law enforcement; Responding to and reporting on environmental law enforcement incidents; Coordination with Law Enforcement Services and other City departments, private land owners, communities, Neighbourhood watches and SAPS as it relates to ELE; and Compiling monthly, quarterly and annual reports relating to Environmental Law Enforcement.
