Controls Technician: Robotics/ Robotics Technician - South Africa

Job Summary: Responsible for the design and development of world-class automation solutions. Duties involve contributing to machine concepts, design of robot programming software, integration of robots within electrical and mechanical systems, process development and machine installation and After Sales Support at customer sites worldwide. Programming and integration assignments involve leading-edge technologies and processes utilizing PLC’s, PC’s, robotics, motion controllers, vision systems, laser and other controllers. Key Responsibilities: Provide the technical expertise to design and develop robot programming solutions, specific to customer and project requirements based on standard programming methods Debug and commission robot systems at our facility, during the system integration stage, and then at the customer’s site during installation. Travel as required to customer and supplier sites to perform installation, commissioning and training duties. Select, interface, and integrate robots with other system hardware and software components such as PLC’s, analog devices, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems and lasers. Work with other members of the control systems design department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality and reduced cost. Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional automation system. Provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify robot program completeness and robustness. Provide accurate documentation for each project. Advise customer on solving technical problems. Provide customer with training specific to their current project (i.e. machine operation, programming principles and program structure). These responsibilities are subject to change as a function of the individual’s abilities. Required Skills and Experience: Proficiency in maintaining automation equipment Experience with robotics, AI and machine learning Solid understanding of computer programming and software development Ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform complex system tests Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Creative thinking skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong analytical skills Ability to keep up with the latest technologies A desire to continually upgrade technical knowledge Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science. 3 years of experience in electrical or control system design. Experience with PLC, DCS and SCADA systems. Knowledge of PLC and DCS programming National Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Strong Electrical knowledge and experience Level of Competency: Must possess good analytical and deductive reasoning abilities and memory skills.
