Where you'll work An innovative organisation that is passionate about using technology in education to pursue an outcomes-based intervention that can meaningfully impact learners in South Africa. They deploy online English and numeracy literacy programmes in underprivileged primary schools across South Africa. These programmes offer young learners the opportunity to work at their own pace through fun and enjoyable activities while navigating their learning journey by means of technology. This organisation is not only addressing the literacy crisis but also equipping young learners with the technological skills required for future success. How you'll role As The Education Specialist, you will use your knowledge of education in the foundation and/or intermediate phase to analyse the different edtech literacy and numeracy products deployed and how they help learners access the school curricula, in order to maximise the organisation's impact on learning outcomes. This role presents a unique opportunity to work in a not-for-profit EdTech organisation that has significant scale, is passionate about impact, and embraces innovation. This NPO has developed a strong capability in technology implementation which provides it with the foundation to effectively deliver Edtech literacy and numeracy products. What you'll do Understand, analyse, and compare at a pedagogical level, each literacy and numeracy products (current eight and potential future): The theoretical construct for each product What each product teaches, its scope, and coherence How each product works The structure of a learning journey for a learner in each product How each product supports the company's objectives for improving learner outcomes for literacy and numeracy Use these insights to determine what products are best for which learners, under what circumstances, and at what grade Use assessment and learner performance data to make data driven decisions regarding product effectiveness Use assessment and learner performance data to provide information and support to teachers, district, and provincial government about the impact of the EdTech products deployed Determine and advise on how the curriculum of each product should be adjusted or supplemented for maximum impact, and within implementation constraints (such as time limitations) Understand how each of the products deployed, overlays with foundation and intermediate phase literacy and numeracy curricula and Annual Teaching Plans (ATPs) Develop and articulate the strategic positioning for each product outlining their merits and support of curricula for the advocacy and adoption of products by schools, district, and provincial government Use an understanding of the products to advise the training division, facilitators, teachers, and principals on how the different products work and support curricula Understand content or pedagogical product updates/releases, the implications for learners, and engage with operations teams to adjust programming Conduct market analysis to identify and evaluate other edtech numeracy and literacy products Enhance the company's selection rubric when considering other products to test Collaborate with the evaluation team to develop and refine assessments that accurately measure student learning outcomes Research current developments in EdTech, teaching methods and other educational practices, and advise on necessary changes and possible improvements What you'll need An Honours degree in Education is preferred Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching at Foundation or Intermediate phase in English and/or Mathematics, or as a Head of Department for Mathematics or English In-depth knowledge of educational standards and pedagogical best practices Analytical skills to evaluate products and make meaning of learner data Product evaluation and learner journey mapping (for learners and teachers); preferably in literacy and numeracy Strong communication skills in order to convey to different audiences the ‘how' and ‘what' of the EdTech products deployed Education development Research skills Decision making skills Problem solving skills Salary R50,000 - R60,000 per month (negotiable based on experience) Apply Now
