POSITION: ESG ASSOCIATE (UNLISTED)

Purpose of the Role:

To ensure the adoption and compliance of ESG principles and plans in the investment decision-making process, contributing to the long-term sustainability and stewardship of investee companies.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Honours degree in ESG-related fields (Environmental, Governance, or Social)
5-7 years of experience in an ESG role

Preferred Qualifications:

MBA/MBL or a Master’s degree in ESG-related fields (advantageous)

Preferred Body/Association Memberships:

Institute of Directors
South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions
Chartered Institute of Secretaries

Technical/Core Skills:

Corporate governance
Understanding of environmental and/or social legislative frameworks
Social impact assessment (summative and formative)
Portfolio monitoring
ESG due diligence experience
Working knowledge of BBBEE issues
Good understanding of ESG principles and the investment management industry

Key Responsibilities:

Contributing to the development and implementation of the ESG strategy
Conducting ESG due diligence on transactions
Monitoring ESG plans and issues within portfolios
Reporting on ESG performance as required by stakeholders
Training staff and investee companies on ESG compliance
Performing periodic impact analyses
Conducting ESG research activities
Managing resources and staff
Analyzing companies' ESGT performance and managing respective ESG risks and opportunities
Engaging with companies on ESGT issues
Supporting the development of tools and frameworks for ESGT integration into investment processes
Contributing to ESG thought leadership and integration
