POSITION: ESG ASSOCIATE (UNLISTED)
Purpose of the Role:
To ensure the adoption and compliance of ESG principles and plans in the investment decision-making process, contributing to the long-term sustainability and stewardship of investee companies.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Honours degree in ESG-related fields (Environmental, Governance, or Social)
- 5-7 years of experience in an ESG role
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA/MBL or a Master’s degree in ESG-related fields (advantageous)
Preferred Body/Association Memberships:
- Institute of Directors
- South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions
- Chartered Institute of Secretaries
Technical/Core Skills:
- Corporate governance
- Understanding of environmental and/or social legislative frameworks
- Social impact assessment (summative and formative)
- Portfolio monitoring
- ESG due diligence experience
- Working knowledge of BBBEE issues
- Good understanding of ESG principles and the investment management industry
Key Responsibilities:
- Contributing to the development and implementation of the ESG strategy
- Conducting ESG due diligence on transactions
- Monitoring ESG plans and issues within portfolios
- Reporting on ESG performance as required by stakeholders
- Training staff and investee companies on ESG compliance
- Performing periodic impact analyses
- Conducting ESG research activities
- Managing resources and staff
- Analyzing companies' ESGT performance and managing respective ESG risks and opportunities
- Engaging with companies on ESGT issues
- Supporting the development of tools and frameworks for ESGT integration into investment processes
- Contributing to ESG thought leadership and integration
