Area: stellenbosch Term: permanent Experience: 5 yrs Salary: industry related Closing Date: urgent Starting Date: negotiable Reference Code: slvd-24-14 our client, a prestigious wine estate based on the outskirts of stellenbosch is looking to appoint a facilities manager to the team. this goal of this appointment is to ensure that the estate infrastructure is in a “fit for purpose” state at all times. this will include the efficient operation of services and equipment. this includes road infrastructure, water reticulation, electricity network, perimeter fencing, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, building, carpentry, waste management, water plant, generators/solar, projects. responsibilities: manage maintenance budget including monitoring inventory and expenses. identify opportunities for department savings. to take immediate action in the event of an absolute emergency summoning assistance from the appropriate authority when necessary, during duty hours and outside of duty hours. ensure complaints and service failures are remedied in a timely manner. coordinate major maintenance and repairs as required to mechanical systems, hvac systems, generators/solar, water systems. schedule and supervise outsourced maintenance activities including work performed by contractors or subcontractors. serve as health and safety representative, including coordination of safety training needs, assisting with safety audits, facilitating compliance with standards, and maintaining related safety records. compile necessary work schedules and work monitors, and other paperwork such as work instructions and working procedures necessary for performance. be responsible for providing daily instruction to teams and the issuing and safe return of all ground’s maintenance equipment. maintain computer records, emails in a timely and accurate manner as required. respond to emails within 48 hours, liaise with contractors and facilitate appointments for general maintenance. work with teams as necessary to set a best-in-class example and to direct the required performance and level of productivity. establish job priorities and time frames for maintenance staff ensure that all staff adhere to work instructions, health, and safety, legislative and quality requirements. ensure that staff adhere to disciplinary rules and acceptable behavior and take necessary management action in the event of breaches. maintain the presentation of vehicles and plant paying particular attention to ensuring all vehicles are checked for defects by drivers at the beginning and end of each working day, and that defects are recorded and addressed accordingly. ensure all vehicles are properly equipped, kept clean. keeping of detailed logbooks in all vehicles. ensure fire protection equipment is properly maintained and up to date operate light and heavy machinery, including tractors, trailers, and garden equipment maintain and control stocks of supplies and ensure re-ordering is prompted in a timely fashion. to supervise staff at weekends, holidays and evenings as required. deputize for other supervisors as required (e.g., annual leave, sickness). regular routine preventative maintenance of all farm assets. documentation thereof. train employees on equipment, task procedures, work standards and proper safety procedures. ensure cleaners follow sops and cleaning of facilities is to company standard. this position will require an energetic, proactive and experienced individual. you will be able to handle pressure and operate effectively. you will have superior attention to detail and take pride in your execution. interpersonal skills is imperative as you will manage daily team performance, crisis situations and mentoring activities. the position requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights. a relevant technical/electrical tertiary qualification is required. at least 5 years experience in a similar position with equal responsibility. valid drivers license residence within the stellenbosch/helderberg area required due to time constraints during a crisis.
