Duties include overseeing the final stages of manuscript production, from acceptance to publishing, and managing a small team of production coordinators. Suitable candidates will need to have a bachelor's degree in a related field with experience in academic publishing. Responsibilities: Lead and mentor a small team of production coordinators, offering guidance, supervision, and opportunities for professional growth. Supervise and manage all phases of manuscript production, from initial acceptance to final publication. Develop, assign, and oversee work orders, ensuring clear communication of tasks and expectations. Maintain and update production schedules, ensuring timely completion of all tasks and adherence to specifications. Conduct rigorous quality assurance checks to ensure that the final product meets the journal's standards for quality and accuracy. Handle the procurement and management of Article Processing Charge (APC) invoices for all manuscripts in the production pipeline. Coordinate communication and address issues with authors, vendors, and internal teams throughout the finalization and publishing process. Contribute to the creation and upkeep of style guides and processes to maintain consistency across all published materials. Serve as the primary point of contact for authors, providing timely updates and addressing inquiries regarding manuscript status. Collaborate closely with various departments, including Submissions and Peer Review, Copy Editing, Proofreading, and Typesetting, to ensure a seamless publishing process. Stay informed about the latest industry trends and best practices in open access publishing to maintain relevance and efficiency. Perform professional-level proofreading of manuscripts to ensure the delivery of error-free content. Requirements Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience; possessing a postgraduate qualification is advantageous. Previous involvement in academic publishing, particularly within an open-access setting, is preferred. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Demonstrated capability in overseeing a small team and contractors or leading projects, showcasing effective leadership and communication abilities. Prior experience in performance management and team development, emphasizing the creation of a supportive and conducive work atmosphere. Familiarity with performance tracking and analysis, accompanied by a solid grasp of pertinent performance indicators within the publishing sector. Competence in quality assurance procedures, coupled with a meticulous attention to detail to minimize the occurrence of errors and errata. Proficiency in utilizing various referencing styles such as Vancouver, APA, and Harvard. Proficiency in adhering to the Oxford house style guide. Strong organizational skills, enabling the management of multiple tasks concurrently and the timely meeting of deadlines. Comprehension of the publishing workflow, encompassing manuscript acceptance through to publication. Proficiency in utilizing publishing software and systems effectively. Exceptional proficiency in the English language, encompassing reading, writing, and verbal communication. Robust attention to detail and an unwavering dedication to maintaining quality standards. Outstanding interpersonal abilities and adeptness in communication.
