Financial Accountant - Ysterplaat
Primary focus of this role is to take responsibility for the finance function, which involves the collection, processing, recording, reconciliation and reporting of financial data, verifying the validity, completeness and accuracy of source documentation. Maintains complete and proper records of revenue, expenditure, assets, and liabilities, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately record all cash receipts and payments in the cashbook
- Prepare and reconcile bank statements
- Monitor and reconcile discrepancies in cash transactions
- Record all supplier and rent invoices
- Raise Wholesale customer invoices
- Balance sheet (including key supplier account) reconciliations
- Month-end journals and reporting
- Compiling month-end management packs
- Analyse GL accounts
- Preparation of monthly VAT returns
- Prepare, review, submit and liaise with auditors for annual audit
- Performing financial calculations, particularly relating to inventory
- Assist with annual budgets and quarterly forecasting
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports and statements
- Follow company procedures and maintain confidentiality of financial information
- Adhere to relevant laws, regulations and best practices
- Assist Senior Accountant and CFO where needed
Requirements:
- BCom Accounting, Diploma in Finance/ Accounting or similar qualification
- At least 3 years post articles
- Completed articles SAIPA or SAICA are highly advantageous
- Experience in retail industry will be beneficial
- Working knowledge on accounting software such as Pastel, Sage, Xero or the like
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and procedures
- Proficient in using accounting software and Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently
- Meticulous attention to detail is highly important
- Ability to work under pressure, working to tight deadlines
