The Group Financial Controller (GFC) is the second in command of Regional Financial team (Uganda, Tanzania & Kenya) and drives the achievement of the Regional Financial Strategy, Reporting, as well as assisting in the dealing with stakeholders, reporting to the Manco and Exco, managing the regional auditors. The GFC will be based in Johannesburg and will be reporting directly to the Senior Regional Financial Manager (based in Tanzania) as well as to the CFO (based in JHB) with a dotted line to the Group Finance Manager (based in JHB). 1) Day to day Financial Function: • Develop and supervise the implementation of internal financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems. • Review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations. This includes querying potential errors and managing the process through to correction, as well as identification, communication and mitigation of potential risks. • Review of monthly management accounts. • Fixed assets oversight and maintenance of an accurate, up-to-date asset register. • Review and assist in the preparation of the Annual Financial Statements. • Lead the end-to-end audit process of current systems, while acting as a point of contact for external auditors. • Review of monthly VAT returns prior to submission to revenue authorities. • Drive the continuous improvement of end-to-end accounting procedures. • Ad-hoc company secretarial and tax assistance as required. • Ad-hoc administrative assistance as required. • Support and mentor in-country finance staff. 2) Analysis of information. • Financial reporting, and analysis of customer sales, cost of sales (incl all elements of the bill of materials (BOM)) • Cost and variance analysis fixed and variable operating expenses. • Track and reconcile operational performance against the budget. • Perform pricing for tenders/quotes to be reviewed by the SRFM. • Analise weekly and monthly movements in Debt management and collections. • Analise information to be included in the weekly Exco reports. • Work closely with management and/or the executive team to share reports and analyse findings. • Supervise the research, with the regional Manco teams, into factors influencing business performance and report on these. • CA(SA) / CIMA / ACCA qualification • 3 – 5 years' commercial experience • Ability to work in a cross border multi-cultural environment • Ability to support and manage output remotely • Willing to travel to East Africa 6 – 8 weeks per annum (in separate trips) • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Sage experience preferential • Must have the capacity to turn complex data into logical formats • Thorough and methodical attention to detail. • Be commercially savvy and have business awareness. • The ability to prioritize and have good time management skills. • Good presentation and communication skills. • Have an analytical approach to work. • Possesses sound technical skills and high level of numeracy skills.
