Financial Manager - Cape Town City Centre

Successful Medium sized Company in the the Agriculture, Investments sector is looking for a FM to manage a team of Accountants.


Duties & Responsibilities
While the primary role is a Financial Manager managing a team of financial accountants and dedicated to the Financial Management of the portfolio of companies, there are a number of other areas of involvement across the organization, including supervisory duties.
Financial Management
  • Application of IFRS 9, IFRS 16, IAS 40 and IAS 41 as well as integration with annual valuation function
  • Responsible for monthly reporting
  • Review of monthly management accounts
  • Ensure quality and timely financial reporting and analysis
  • Application of technical accounting and strategic thinking
  • Strict adherence to reporting timelines
  • Review of balance sheet reconciliations (payables, receivables et al)
  • Responsible for Fixed Assets ensuring its valid, accurate and complete
  • Payroll review and approval
  • Payment approval
  • Manage the annual audits of the portfolio companies
  • Responsible for the internal control environment by implementing best practice internal controls
  • Prepare financial forecasts
Contracts
  • Provide input in legal agreements
  • Implementation of legal agreements
Insurance
  • Annual reviews of insurance policies
  • Ensure new assets are adequately insured
Statutory
  • Ensure all statutory obligations are fulfilled timeously; including VAT, Provisional Tax, Annual Returns
  • Review and submits tax returns
  • Responsible for ensuring resolutions, minutes and other company secretarial matters are executed by the external service provider
Management
  • Manage a team of accountants who are responsible for the primary books of account
  • Motivate, mentor and coach accountants
  • Responsible for setting KPIs and managing performance of accountants


Qualifications/ Experience Required
  • Chartered Accountant or Hons and Board 1
  • 5 years post articles experience in financial management
  • Experience with the application of IFRS 9, IFRS 16, IAS 40 and IAS 41
  • Sound understanding of the regulatory and tax requirements
  • Experience in automation of financial processes and reporting.
  • Proven experience in managing the controls in financial reporting processes.
  • Strategic and forward looking.
  • Xero experience is beneficial
