Armscor Dockyard based in Simon's Town has a vacancy for an Artisan: Foundry/ Engineering Patternmaker , within the Operations division. Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and experience requirements set out below. PURPOSE OF THE JOB To provide an efficient and effective wooden and epoxy patternmaking service capability by constructing patterns that are used to manufacture a wide range of castings for the ships/ vessels and various shore establishments. CRITICAL PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE Implement tasks as assigned by supervisor in line with estimated timelines. Interpret job card requirements and identify all required resources to perform a job. Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations and initiate appropriate actions and rectify any unsafe activities. Conduct risk assessments and mitigate any identified risks. Execute the job adhering to all instructions, procedures, policies and regulations and stay within time and cost constraints. Produce drawings and sketches for the manufacturing of required patterns. Read and interpret blueprints or drawings of patterns to be manufactured or parts to be cast to determine material and equipment setup requirements. Manufacture wooden and epoxy patterns from drawings and models/ samples. Operate a variety of equipment and set equipment controls to meet cutting specifications. Complete and maintain all applicable records. Liaise with, support and assist superiors, project managers and other sections to ensure optimum completion of jobs by the Dockyard. Abide by, promote and partake in all safety, health, environmental, quality and security requirements of the Dockyard. QUALIFICATIONS Trade Certificate - Patternmaker EXPERIENCE Minimum 2 years technical experience of patternmaking in the foundry environment. SPECIAL PROFICIENCY/SKILLS: Ability to plan job accordingly in relation to resources required. Knowledge of different types of wood. Ability to do ornamental carving. Ability to use read and interpret drawings. Ability to operate variety of machines like band saw, milling machine, lathe, circular saw and pantograph. Be able to work with different types of materials i.e. wood, plastic and metal. Be able to work with limited information and come up with solutions. Have strong numerical skills. Good interpersonal, communication, planning and organizing skills. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated experience in manual plastic moulding manufacturing. Basic knowledge of different types of metals and casting processes. Experience of using CAD packages, CNC machines and 3D printers will be an added advantage. Job Grade: C2 Apply Now
