Are you an experienced Quality Controller with excellent product knowledge and experience in inspecting fruit for export? We have a role available at our client, Cape Five, a fruit exporter based in Stellenbosch (Jamestown). The role is responsible for ensuring that compliance standards at growers, specifically in packhouses, are met so that food safety risks are mitigated and market access for fruit export is gained. Cape Five specialises in exporting pome, stone fruit, citrus and blueberries to multiple international destinations. Your expert knowledge of especially pome and stone fruit would be especially valuable to us. Have a clear understanding of the quality standards required by the markets to which fruit will be shipped. Perform quality control inspections on the various varieties of fruit (pome, stone fruit, blueberries and citrus) by checking pressures, sugars, internals, externals, temperature, weights, labels. Take pictures as evidence. When there is deviation from packing specifications, discuss inspection results with those responsible for products and recommend necessary corrective actions. Write a report on the quality check and send to relevant parties. Check the quality of the “own” fruit intake against the contractual agreement and communicate quality findings to the business. Continuously find ways to improve quality throughout the supply chain. The incumbent will be expected to travel to packhouses in the Western Cape (Swellendam, Tulbagh, Stellenbosch, Vyeboom, Elgin, Grabouw) Experience At least 5 years' experience in a similar role. Packhouse QC experience is essential. Knowledge of pome fruit is essential. Knowledge of stone fruit is highly desirable, and knowledge of citrus and blueberries is advantageous. Qualification A relevant Food Safety or Agriculture qualification is essential. Knowledge of DALRRD special market exports requirements, PPECB market requirements, BRC, Global Gap and SIZA standards is essential.
