A global supplier of high quality webbing solutions, has a vacancy for a General Manager to lead the Team. The hiring organisation is a textile manufacturer, based in Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha. The Company forms part of a larger Group which consists of four South African based manufacturing business units. Please note only candidates who are prepared to work / live in Gqeberha are to apply. As the General Manager you will report to the Group Managing Director. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Formulate the BU's strategy together with the Group MD for approval by the Board. Prepare operational plans aligned to the strategy and drive the implementation thereof. Prepare, review and present budgets for approval by the Divisional MD and Chairman. Be customer focussed and fully accountable for sales, profitability, and the achievement of budgets. Lead and develop staff reporting into to him / her and inspire, influence and motivate the full team. Develop close working relationships with key customers. Play an active role in developing new products, customers and markets. Manage the company within financial and operating constraints and maintain financial control and discipline. Ensure operational controls are in place and quality and service standards are continually improved. Strive for world class manufacturing standards. Ensure Group policies are implemented and maintained and set additional plant level policies where necessary. Manage HR with particular emphasis on ensuring adequate succession planning, retention of technical knowledge and effective mentoring and development of key employees. Keep abreast of technological developments that impact the industry that the Company operates in. Ensure that acceptable quality raw materials are sourced at the most competitive prices and that the import supply chain is carefully managed. KEY SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: A self-driven, results orientated, highly motivated individual. “Pioneering” type of personality, keen to explore, develop new markets. An enquiring mind, willing to learn, but prepared to question the conventional wisdom. Strong business development and sales skills. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain a good team spirit within a diverse multidisciplinary team. Willing to be hands-on and involves in all aspects of the business. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 10 years relevant manufacturing environment experience and at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. A relevant tertiary degree / qualification will be required. BCom, BEng, MBA or similar qualification. Clean criminal history. SA Citizen with a valid, unendorsed driver's licence.
