A well-established and growing company in the agricultural sector is looking to appoint a senior General Manager with strong technical skills and a hands-on approach to Avocado Farm management. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to join an established company in the attractive and growing Avocado farming sector. A demonstratable track record in avocado farm management and business acumen is critical. Although it is required that successful candidate be hands-on this role requires a lot of goal setting, planning, management, and evaluation. Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered. Planning, management and tracking of farm activities together with the individual farm managers. These includes weeding, fertilizer application, irrigation, pruning, harvesting and staff management amongst others. Monitoring of the overall health of the Avocado Orchards and taking proactive action to ensure the health of the trees and soils. Management, maintenance and monitoring of farm infrastructure and equipment on a regular basis. Preferable through periodic physical inspection. Coordination of resource sharing between the farms. These can include people, equipment, vehicles, fertilizers, and chemicals amongst others. Ensure that all farm activity records are kept daily, that all KPIs are tracked, and that any discrepancies are highlighted and corrected as soon as possible. Liaising with and managing suppliers and contractors. Working closely with finance to share information, manage requisitions, prepare budgets, and communicate and deviations from set plans. Performance appraisal and management of reportees and ensuring that there is a quarterly performance manage for all operational staff. Preparation and presentation of reports on a regular basis covering operation of the business. these will be in the form of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports. Management of and recording on utilities such as water and electricity. Relevant agricultural Diploma/Degree advantageous. Min of 10 years of farming experience in a management role within Avocado farming. Experience with the management and maintenance of farming equipment. Demonstratable knowledge of the Avocado tree production cycle. Knowledge of the Avocado tree management. Computer literate. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to lead and be led. Ability to organise and manage a team. Maintenance and mechanically orientated. Valid Driver's license. Market related
