Group Financial Manager - Johannesburg

Job Summary: The Group Financial Manager will oversee the financial activities of the mining company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective financial planning, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills to manage the financial health of the organization and support its growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting and Analysis:

    • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements.
    • Conduct detailed financial analysis and provide insights to senior management.
    • Ensure compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and other relevant accounting standards.
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting:

    • Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic financial forecasting.
    • Monitor financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions.
  3. Cash Flow Management:

    • Manage cash flow and working capital to ensure the company's liquidity.
    • Develop strategies to optimize cash flow and investment opportunities.
  4. Cost Management:

    • Oversee cost control and cost reduction initiatives.
    • Analyze cost structures and implement cost-saving measures across the organization.
  5. Financial Planning and Strategy:

    • Develop long-term financial strategies to support the companys growth and profitability.
    • Provide financial input for strategic decisions, including mergers and acquisitions, capital projects, and other investments.
  6. Risk Management:

    • Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure adequate insurance coverage and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  7. Team Leadership and Development:

    • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and identify training needs.
  8. Internal Controls and Compliance:

    • Ensure robust internal controls are in place to safeguard the company's assets.
    • Oversee internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
  9. Stakeholder Management:

    • Communicate financial performance and strategic initiatives to stakeholders, including the board of directors, investors, and regulatory bodies.
    • Build and maintain relationships with banks, auditors, and other financial institutions.
  10. Technology and Systems:

    • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and technologies.
    • Ensure the financial systems are efficient, reliable, and scalable.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; Masters degree or MBA preferred.
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a senior financial leadership role, preferably in the mining industry.
  • Strong knowledge of mining industry financial practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
