The Group Pharmacy Manager at a Private Hospital is responsible for overseeing the entire pharmacy operations across multiple locations within the hospital group. This role involves managing procurement, negotiating with suppliers, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimizing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of pharmacy services. The Group Pharmacy Manager plays a critical role in enhancing patient care by ensuring the availability and proper management of medications and related supplies. 1. Pharmacy Operations Management: Oversee the daily operations of all pharmacies within the hospital group, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery. Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for pharmacy operations to ensure consistency and compliance with regulatory standards. Monitor and evaluate the performance of pharmacy staff, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance skills and productivity. 2. Procurement and Inventory Management: Manage the procurement process for pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and related products, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchasing. Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, prices, and terms to secure the best possible deals for the hospital group. Implement and oversee inventory management systems to track stock levels, monitor usage, and minimize waste, ensuring that all medications and supplies are available when needed. 3. Supplier Negotiations and Consignment Management: Lead negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms, discounts, and consignment agreements, optimizing the hospital group's purchasing power and cost savings. Manage consignment stock, ensuring accurate tracking, billing, and inventory reconciliation to maintain accountability and control over consigned items. Evaluate supplier performance, addressing any issues related to product quality, delivery, or service to maintain high standards of patient care. 4. Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards, including those set by the South African Pharmacy Council and other regulatory bodies. Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure the safe and effective use of medications, including regular audits, inspections, and reporting. Stay informed about changes in pharmaceutical regulations, best practices, and industry trends, incorporating relevant updates into the hospital group's policies and procedures. 5. Financial Management and Reporting: Develop and manage the pharmacy department's budget, monitoring expenditures, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement. Prepare and present financial and operational reports to hospital leadership, highlighting key performance indicators, trends, and strategic recommendations. Analyze financial data to identify areas for improvement, implementing strategies to optimize pharmacy profitability and efficiency. 6. Patient Care and Medication Safety: Promote and oversee initiatives to enhance patient safety and the quality of care, including medication reconciliation, error prevention, and patient education programs. Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure the appropriate and effective use of medications, providing expert advice and support on pharmacotherapy and drug interactions. Address patient concerns and complaints related to pharmacy services, resolving issues promptly and effectively to maintain high levels of patient satisfaction. 7. Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Conduct performance evaluations, identify professional development opportunities, and implement training programs to enhance staff skills and competencies. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and excellence in all aspects of pharmacy operations. Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (BPharm) required; a Master's degree or additional certification in Healthcare Management or Business Administration is preferred. Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in pharmacy management, with a strong background in procurement, supplier negotiations, and consignment management. In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations, industry standards, and best practices in the pharmacy space. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff to achieve departmental goals. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with suppliers, healthcare professionals, and patients. Analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to develop and manage budgets, analyze financial data, and implement cost-saving strategies.
