Head Baker - Camps Bay

An exciting opportunity exists at Village Bakery for a Head Baker to lead their dynamic team. This is a new venture and an excellent opportunity to make your mark.

The head baker is responsible for leading the baking team in producing high-quality bread and pastry products for the bakery. The role involves managing the bakery's production schedules, overseeing staff, creating new recipes and maintaining high levels of hygiene and food safety. The head baker will also be required to maintain a safe and organised bakery environment, train staff and manage inventory and supplies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5 years proven experience in a bakery or similar food production environment.
  • Pastry qualification (advantageous)
  • Excellent baking and pasty making skills, including the ability to develop and innovate steps
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in supervising and training staff
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage production schedules and inventory effectively
  • Knowledge of food safety and HACCP
  • Familiar with industry trends and product developments
  • Must have own transport and valid license - non negotiable

This is a full time position, and the Head Baker must be willing to work flexible hours, including 4am morning starts, evenings and weekends to meet production schedules.

Key responsibilities (not limited to)

  • Produce high-quality bread and pastry products that meet the bakery's standards and customer expectations
  • Develop new recipes an innovate on existing ones to keep bakery products fresh and appealing
  • Manage inventory and supplies
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the bakery
  • Manage the production schedule of the bakery
  • Train and supervise staff
  • Maintain accurate production records and other administrative tasks
