Head of Southern Africa Job Type: Full time, Permanent Location: South Africa – Remote Salary: R 720,000 South African Rand (Depending upon skills and experience) About us Compassion in World Farming International is a leading global organisation dedicated to ending factory farming worldwide. We were founded in 1967 by Peter Roberts, a British farmer alarmed by the rise of factory farming. Over the past 50 years, we have made major strides in abolishing inhumane practices such as barren battery cages, veal crates, and sow gestation crates in the UK and Europe. Our approach involves campaigning, advocacy, and engagement with policymakers at national, intergovernmental, and corporate levels, building a movement of individuals concerned about animal welfare and the health and sustainability of our food. We are driven by a passion for animal welfare and food system change, believing in a future where animals are treated with compassion and respect, and where sustainable farming practices prevail for a healthy planet. Our international headquarters are in Godalming (UK), with team members in 14 countries on four continents including the US, Italy, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Czechia, China, and a specialist policy office in Brussels. About the role As our Head of Southern Africa, you will be entrusted with driving our new subsidiary branch on behalf of Compassion in World Farming International. Your role will be pivotal in shaping the operations of Compassion in World Farming Southern Africa (CIWF SA), which is set to be established in 2024 as a Non-Profit Company (NPC). In this exciting role, you will lead and spearhead the development and implementation of strategies aimed at ending factory farming in South Africa, while fostering a transition towards a more compassionate and sustainable agricultural practices. By working closely with stakeholders, influencing policy makers, and driving impactful campaigns, you will contribute to achieving measurable outcomes for animals across the continent. Your leadership will be instrumental in building and guiding CIWF SA towards achieving our mission. Requirements About you We are looking for a dynamic and visionary leader who is deeply committed to farmed animal welfare and passionate about driving change in Southern Africa. You must possess strong strategic thinking skills, able to envision long-term goals and develop innovative strategies to achieve them. Effective communication is essential, as you will engage with stakeholders, influence policy makers, and represent CIWF SA in various forums. You’ll be a collaborative leader, as you'll be responsible for building and motivating teams to achieve common goals. Political acumen is important, as you navigate complex landscapes and drive policy change effectively. Previous experience in setting up organisations or working in the non-profit sector is advantageous, but a deep understanding of the local context and a strong commitment to our mission are paramount.
