The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking elligible and qualified applicants for a position of Human Rights Assistant in the Political Section. Develops expertise in human rights, cultivates contacts and arranges introductions; provides written and oral reports of both factual and analytical nature on human rights issues; drafts congressionally-mandated reports; organizes meetings; reviews media publications and social media commentary on human rights topics; and serves as Grant Officer Representative for the Ambassador Special-Self Help Program Education Bachelor’s degree (Political Science, History, Journalism, Social Sciences, Economics) is required. Work Experience Minimum of three years’ experience working in any number of sectors (i.e. civil society, government, private sector, academia/think tanks, or media) in writing, communicating, managing projects, or building networks Language Fluent of speaking/reading/writing of English, may include the ability to translate. This may be tested Job Knowledge Practical understanding of the South African laws, policies, and national action plans that are intended to safeguard human rights; Practical understanding of the stakeholders engaged in promoting and defending human rights of South Africans and foreign nationals within South Africa and the region. Skills and Abilities Communication skills in writing, speaking, and correspondence. Good working speed and accuracy of typing on a keyboard is required. Basic numerical skills are required The job holder should be able to use the Microsoft Office Suites. Basic Salary: R573,762 – R803,343 per annum Cash Benefits: R87,874 – R107,005 per annum Non-cash benefits include medical, pension and others where applicable Final salary is based upon a variety of factors The successful candidate must be able to obtain and hold a Local Security Certification or Public Trust clearance.
