Applicants must have a minimum Honours Degree in Economics/Development studies or a related field. A Master’s degree in Economics/ Development Studies is a distinct advantage. Experience in socio-economic research (primary and secondary). Knowledge of the Gambling industry is an advantage. At least 3 years’ experience in an economic or research related environment. Prior experience in dealing with a public sector client will be an added advantage. A broad understanding of strategies and initiatives that are aimed at boosting South Africa’s economy, more specifically as they relate to KwaZuluNatal. Ability to use MS Office Suite. Driver’s license. Core competencies : Socio-economic Research (primary and secondary), Use of MS Office Suite; Report writing, Analysis of findings; Presentation skills; Independence; Attention to detail and thoroughness. A sense of urgency. Probing and initiative. Ability to build capacity within others. Responsibilities : To assess the difference in levels of gambling between different population groups and the geographical coverage of various gambling modes. To assess the potential growth of various gambling modes. To assess the consequences of gambling on employment losses and gains. To assess the consequences of gambling on the social welfare of individuals and communities. To understand the propensity of gambling in the province. To study and assess public awareness of problem gambling and the work of the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP). Apply Now
