The Junior Assistant to the Accountant will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping functions. The primary focus of this role will be maintaining the cashbook, creditor maintenance, and assisting with general ledger postings to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial records. This position requires strong attention to details, analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment as part of a collaborative team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Cashbook Maintenance: Accurately record all cash inflows and outflows in the cashbook daily Reconcile the cashbook to the bank statements on a regular basis, identifying and resolving discrepancies Ensure all cash transactions are properly categorized and coded to the appropriate general ledger accounts Creditors maintenance: Capturing creditor invoices and arranging for payment when due Monitoring the creditors age analysis for any overdue accounts and/or discrepancies General Ledger Postings: Accurate and timely posting of financial transactions from the cashbook to the general ledger. Develop an understanding of the company's chart of accounts and the appropriate general ledger accounts for various transactions. Regularly review and verify the accuracy of general ledger postings, flagging any potential errors or inconsistencies. Financial Reporting Support: Assist in the preparation of periodic financial reports and sundry report requests. Provide support in preparation of commission calculations. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of financial function, reporting processes, and procedures. Administrative and Miscellaneous Tasks: Provide administrative support to the accountant, including filing, document management, and other ad-hoc tasks. Stay up to date with relevant accounting trends, standards, and best practices. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the finance department. Provide general support, including daily maintenance of the financial software in terms of forex rates etc. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Post-Matric qualification in accounting, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. 2-3 years of experience in a bookkeeping or accounting support role, preferably in a small to medium-sized organization. Law firm experience is advantageous. Good understanding of basic accounting principles, including the structure and purpose of a general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. Proficient in the use of accounting software, spreadsheets, and other financial management tools. Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial data entry and reconciliation. Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team. Adaptable and willing to take on additional responsibilities as the finance department evolves. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Salary – Negotiable (Depending on experience) Apply Now
