Camps Bay Retreat is currently searching for a junior horticulturalist. This position is designed to develop a person in becoming a horticulturalist through on-the-job training. To assist Horticulturalist in the preparation of conceptual and schematic design plants and reports. To act as second in charge in the absence of Horticulturalist and perform essential duties as instructed by superiors. Minimum requirements: Matric Qualification in Horticulture Recognised landscape architectural professional certification 1 years previous experience in a medium to large garden Knowledge of design trends, techniques, materials, and world class practice Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary design and delivery teams Duties and Responsibilities Operations: Working with horticulturalist to liaise with clients Establish general landscape requirements with clients Hotel gardens to be immaculately manicured and maintained Irrigation system to be efficiently operational Identifying weeds and assisting in weed management Ensure that gardens and nursery are kept in an aesthetically pleasing state Working with the garden team to clear all pathways of any obstructions and plant debris Prune and trim all trees, scrubs and hedges Gather the litter/debris and take it to the dump Maintaining indoor plants Maintaining vegetable and herb gardens Ensure all garden equipment and store securely. Administration: Assisting horticulturalist in prepare detailed plans and drawings of the designs for projects construction details and specifications To participate in design workshops with clients and staff as required Assisting in planning the growing, harvesting and planting of flora depending on crop & season Store securely all tools in a safe place to prevent loss or damage to equipment. Know what standard stock items are and in which group store they are kept Ensure that Storekeeping procedures are always followed Managing: Take ownership of projects To be available for Relief Management Human Resources: To hold regular on-the-job training and coaching sessions to ensure that staff perform their duties effectively and efficiently Ensures that staff all attired in their full uniform at all times To ensure that fair and equitable discipline is applied General: To work overtime as requested To be available via telephone when not at work Understanding of facilities and residential management Understanding of the annual extensive care and maintenance programs Assist in keeping the Facilities, Aesthetics and Green files are up to date Due to the large volume of applications received, please note that only candidates that meet the minimum requirements will be contacted.
