NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (VANDERBIJLPARK CAMPUS) FACULTY OF EDUCATION SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION POSITION NUMBER: V002605 POSITION: JUNIOR LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The purpose of this position is to teach Natural Sciences, do research and be involved in Community engagement in the School of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education, subject group Natural Sciences Education on the Vanderbijlpark Campus of the NWU. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Teaching and Learning : Teaching and learning of Physical and Natural Sciences for Education students in the BEd and BEd Honours programmes. 2. Research and Innovation : Research in Natural Sciences Education; study guidance to Honours and Master studies students. 3. Community Engagement: Involvement in community engagement as well as Practical teaching. 4. WIL: Assessing students during their practical teaching. 5. Administrative tasks: All administrative tasks related to the subject and as required by the school. · A BEd with specialisation in Physics and Chemistry OR a BSc with majors Physics and Chemistry, and a professional teaching qualification · A minimum of 3 years' experience teaching Physical Sciences in the Senior and FET Phase. RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE: · A minimum of 3 years' experience teaching Life Sciences or Natural Sciences at a tertiary institution. KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: · Knowledge of teaching in different modes of delivery. · Computer proficient – command of Word, Power point and Excel. Experience of Efundi will be beneficial. · Language proficiency to function in a multilingual environment. · Teaching experience at primary/secondary/tertiary level. BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: · Good interpersonal relations. · The ability to work with large groups of people. · Ability to adhere to timelines and deadlines. · Good communication skills (verbal, written and use of technology). · Language skills to function in the various multilingual environments of the NWU. · Ability to work independent, problem solving, systematically and innovative. · Ability to function effectively under pressure. REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
